The Satellite Subsidy Scheme will give up to 130,000 households in more than 700 regional and remote communities around Australia access to a wider range of TV channels.
Analog TV is being phased-out and analog self-help towers are being switched off as the digital switchover is rolled out across Australia. Households relying on an analog self-help tower that is switching off can access an Australian Government subsidy to reduce the cost of making the transition from analog TV to Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST).
VAST is a new digital satellite service featuring 17 free-to-air channels, including five in high definition (HD) format. VAST also features a local news service shown on a dedicated channel. There are no ongoing charges to watch VAST.
The satellite subsidy is now available in eligible towns and localities across regional Victoria. Eligible households in these towns will only need to pay $200 toward the cost of installing VAST satellite TV.
